What to expect from Transactional Analysis

What is Transactional Analysis (TA)

Founded by Eric Berne in the late 1950s, transactional analysis therapy is based on the theory that each person has three ego-states: parent, adult and child. These are used along with other key transactional analysis concepts, tools and models to analyse how individuals communicate and to identify what interaction is needed for a better outcome.

What does it do?

TA can help individuals to understand & recognise  life & communication patterns whilst providing  a deeper understanding of self and others.

How?

Together we will explore & reflect on early decisions, beliefs, and relational patterns formed in childhood. These early decisions and beliefs could show as confusion, having boundary issues, or over adapting to others and a sense of uncertainty in oneself.  We will    explore the patterns that shape your relationships, the stories you’ve inherited, and the boundaries you’re learning to honour.

Therapy with me

This is my therapy room, cosy, and relaxing. I provide fidget toys for clients as a calming mechanism and paints and pens as I believe that sometimes the words just aren't enough and  cannot be spoken. This invites the Child ego state within us to be creative and expressive.  I like to use creative tools like timelines, metaphor decks, or journaling to uncover unconscious scripts.

Therapy with me is a collaborative process. We will explore the patterns that shape your relationships, the boundaries you’re learning to express, and the parts of you that have been waiting to be heard. I work with clients to strengthen their Adult ego state, deepen emotional fluency, and build a more authentic way of relating — to self and others.

Whether you’re seeking clarity, connection, or creative ways to understand yourself, I offer safe, warm non-judgemental space that honours your pace, your voice, and your capacity for change.  As we are all different I wish to provide a unique service and often use other methods of therapy to create a authentic therapeutic relationship. I work emotively, with honesty and vulnerability allowing us to meet where we both are at, however that looks.

Where appropriate I use various methods of TA to contact hidden, fearful and shamed younger parts of clients, offering a safe space to explore the phenomenological experience and facilitate re-decisions, allowing our younger parts to be seen and validated helping to make changes to behaviour in the here and now.
